UC Davis is not traditionally known for being a big party school, and is rarely in the news for things getting out of control with California college students in and around campus. However over the past few years their annual university open house called Picnic Day got a bit chaotic. Picnic Day has been going on at UC Davis for 96 years, but after major increases in violence and arrests this year, it may be the end of the event. This year had 33 arrests, which was over double what was seen in the past couple years, and the event required a lot more police to handle the crowds. (more…)

As a result various California colleges have had to reduce or cancel some of their summer school classes, which is very upsetting to students. California College Students Volunteering on Spring Break
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010Rough economic times have forced many California college students to reevaluate their priorities, and as a result more are choosing to volunteer and give back during their spring break. Traditionally most California college students travel somewhere like Mexico or Florida, but that costs a lot of money and does not give back to the community. Internships are a great way to get experience in an industry in which you have an interest, it is also a great way to network and make connections to help you in your job search after you graduate. California College Students on Spring Break Should be Cautious of Mexico
Thursday, March 18th, 2010California college students at UC and CSU schools in places like San Diego and Los Angeles often make Mexico their top pick for spring break trips as they can drive down or fly in very quickly. However things in Mexico are a bit hectic lately, which has caused the U.S. State Department to issue a general warning regarding travel to Mexico. Last weekend there was an incident and three people who are associated with the U.S. consulate were shot down in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. There were also two children which were reported to be injured due to this shooting in Mexico. The city of Ciudad Juarez has long been known for violence, often associated with drug cartels which are notorious for killings throughout Mexico. (more…)
