UC Riverside Joins Zipcar Movement in California
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010The University of California, Riverside is now the 17th college in the state which is using the car sharing service, Zipcar, to help reduce the need for on campus parking. California is a big state and there is a lot to do which means that students living on campus like to have a car so they can partake in things outside of school or the city. Often time students move to a UC or CSU college from other parts of the state or even outside California, leaving their cars behind. (more…)
Administrators Upset Over UC San Diego Fraternity Party
Friday, February 19th, 2010Fraternities from the University of California system are frequently in the news for their good and bad activities, but lately most of the press they have been receiving has been negative. A recent party held by UC San Diego fraternity students mocked Black History Month, and many students and administrators are upset. The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, also know as PIKE, was pointed to as the organizers of this party, but in fact it was not an official event from PIKE. There were students who were part of PIKE and other fraternities who were involved with the posting of it on Facebook. (more…)
California State University System Urges Super Seniors to Graduate
Thursday, February 18th, 2010The California State University system is being forced to become more efficient with their budget, as they do not have enough money to offer enough classes to meet the student demand. Cutting classes is not enough, as there are a small minority of “super seniors” who are taking up space in classes which they do not need. Many times, when a student transfers from another California college, they have credits from classes which do not count towards their degree. Often, students take the incorrect classes because of poor planning, and other times they switch majors which makes many of their credits irrelevant. In order to push these super seniors along who have been trying to graduate for more than 5 years, the California State University system will work with students to get them on a plan to graduate. Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Students attending classes in fall 2010 at one of the 23 California State University campuses will now have more classes available to them than previously expected, thanks to $50.9 million in one-time federal stimulus funds. This massive infusion of cash will definitely help close the budget deficit at each of the CSU campuses, but this will not be enough to close the gap. It will however provide CSU college students with an additional 8,000 courses for fall 2010 across all of the CSU schools. (more…)
California Community Colleges Partner With Kaplan University
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Community colleges in California have had to deal with major budget cuts, which have forced many of the schools to completely cut some classes, or offer them fewer times each year. This has made it extremely difficult for students to get into the classes they need in order to graduate with their associates degree. In order to help more students complete their campus-based associates degree requirements, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office announced this week that they have teamed up with Kaplan University to allow students in California to enroll in single courses online. Summer Session Canceled at City College of San Francisco
Friday, February 5th, 2010Budget cuts across the UC, CSU, and community college systems of California are causing numerous problems for the schools as they struggle to offer enough classes for students to graduate. There have already been a variety of classes being offered less often than expected, and when they are offered they might be full, which forces college students to wait until the next term. This scenario is even worse for students of City College of San Francisco, because the school decided to cancel their very popular summer session. The summer session at City College of San Francisco is typically a great time for students to catch up and take classes they could not attend during the normal school year. (more…)
