A group of Stanford engineers have figured out a way to generate small amounts of electricity via individual algae cells. This electricity generating breakthrough could lead to big things for Stanford, as they work to take this research to the next level. During photosynthesis electrons become excited, and this small bit of energy is what the Stanford team are tapping into to create electricity. Currently this research is in the very early stages as the scientists work with only single cells (for now) to master the techniques of how to best harvest the electrons during the photosynthesis process. Researchers at Stanford Generate Electricity From Algae
Friday, April 16th, 2010Admission Data Released by University of California Campuses
Thursday, April 15th, 2010Becoming accepted into a California university is a bit tougher this year as schools reduce enrollments, add wait lists, and boost out of state student numbers (which helps generate more revenue). Just over 10,000 students were given spots on the wait list, and many students did get into the California university that they wanted. However, those students who were put on the wait list do not seem too apt to wait around and see what happens. They seem to be more comfortable picking one of the other California college or universities that accepted them, or possibly going to school out of state. (more…)

Then USC football fans were ecstatic when they heard that top high school offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson officially committed to start playing with the team for the 2010 season. Students Still Frustrated With California College Waiting Lists
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010California colleges and universities decided to implement waiting lists this year so that they could better control the flood of students applying this year. A couple of the CSU schools like San Diego State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo have used waiting lists for years, but now almost all of the California universities and colleges will put them to use. The budget crisis in California has really hurt UC and CSU schools, as they struggle to keep up with student demand, while dealing with limited budgets. (more…)
California College Students Volunteering on Spring Break
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010Rough economic times have forced many California college students to reevaluate their priorities, and as a result more are choosing to volunteer and give back during their spring break. Traditionally most California college students travel somewhere like Mexico or Florida, but that costs a lot of money and does not give back to the community. Fresno State University is doing a great job in helping their students with community service or volunteer projects during spring break 2010. (more…)

Coed Dorms Increasing in Popularity at California Colleges
Friday, March 19th, 2010Coed Dorms or gender-neutral housing has been becoming increasingly popular among California colleges, and schools through the United States. Some of the California colleges that are already accepting this housing option include Stanford, UC Berkley, UC Riverside, and the Harvey Mudd colleges. There are roughly 50 colleges and universities across the U.S. which are using coed dorms, but this number is expected to increase in the next few years. It seems only logical that more California colleges and universities would consider this as a way to gain them more flexibility when it comes to housing. (more…)
California College Students on Spring Break Should be Cautious of Mexico
Thursday, March 18th, 2010California college students at UC and CSU schools in places like San Diego and Los Angeles often make Mexico their top pick for spring break trips as they can drive down or fly in very quickly. However things in Mexico are a bit hectic lately, which has caused the U.S. State Department to issue a general warning regarding travel to Mexico. Last weekend there was an incident and three people who are associated with the U.S. consulate were shot down in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. There were also two children which were reported to be injured due to this shooting in Mexico. The city of Ciudad Juarez has long been known for violence, often associated with drug cartels which are notorious for killings throughout Mexico. (more…)
