During World War II thousands of Japanese-Americans were made to report to internment camps where they were forced to live starting in 1942, under the presidency of FDR. This shift to pushing the Japanese-American citizens into internment camps was a result of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which was performed by Japan. The internments were not equal across the US as the west coast had some of the strictest camps where every Japanese-American in the state was detained.
