Cal State Stanislaus has been all over the news this week after announcing that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would be the speaker delivering the keynote address at their 50th anniversary in June. Some people in the area are excited to come see Palin speak, but the event is also causing some controversy in California. There is a loophole under California law that CSU Stanislaus is exploiting, by utilizing their non-profit foundation to pay Palin for speaking at the anniversary event. Palin has been riding on her 15 minutes of fame which she received as the republican vice-presidential candidate, by making paid appearances as a speaker. (more…)

UC System Looks to Reduce Racist Incidents

Hyatt Place UC Davis is a Campus First

UC Davis is making the news as it debuts the first ever hotel to be located on campus grounds. Seantrel Henderson Officially Signs With USC
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010Early last month it was reported that Seantrel Henderson would go to the University of Southern California, as he announced his commitment but did not officially sign with the team. On national signing day this year, Henderson decided not to sign just yet with USC, although many other players did sign at this time. Technically the signing period for Division I football is not over until April 1, so Henderson came in just under the wire so he can play for USC this next school year. (more…)
California Community College Starts Solar Farm Construction
Monday, March 22nd, 2010Victor Valley College in California is getting attention in the news as it follows the trend of other schools in the state who have started to work on their own solar farm. Many colleges in California are well positioned to use photovoltaic power plants to help feed the power needs for the school. SolFocus is partnering with Victor Valley College to build a massive one-megawatt solar farm in Victorville, California. The community is northeast of Los Angeles in the desert, so it receives an abundant amount of sunlight each year which will fuel the high-efficiency solar cells being installed on campus. (more…)
California State University Chico Launches New Website

California colleges like CSU Bakersfield, CSU Sacramento, and San Diego State University all have websites which are not very visually impressive, and not the easiest to navigate. Coed Dorms Increasing in Popularity at California Colleges
Friday, March 19th, 2010Coed Dorms or gender-neutral housing has been becoming increasingly popular among California colleges, and schools through the United States. Some of the California colleges that are already accepting this housing option include Stanford, UC Berkley, UC Riverside, and the Harvey Mudd colleges. There are roughly 50 colleges and universities across the U.S. which are using coed dorms, but this number is expected to increase in the next few years.
