The University of Southern California football team has been in the news numerous times in the past month, and the buzz continues as they recruit 13 year old quarterback, David Sills for the fall 2015 season. They recently had the nation’s top high school offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson, announce his commitment for fall 2010, but also had former head coach Pete Carroll, leave for an NFL job as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. USC hopes the recent recruits will help them stay competitive for next year, and for years into the future. However, recruiting someone not even in high school for a 2015 football scholarship is a very odd tactic used by USC, which many people were upset about. Davis Sills, a middle school student from Delaware has always dreamed of moving to California to play for USC, which is his dream school. (more…)

USC Football Recruits 13 Year Old for 2015
Friday, February 12th, 2010ACLU Demands Fresno City College Prof. Refrain From Teaching Religious Views as Fact
Thursday, February 11th, 2010In a letter sent to Fresno City College earlier this week, the ACLU demanded that Professor Dr. Bradley Lobez refrain from teaching religiously-based views as science or fact. Students at the public college in Fresno, California, have complained that Professor Lopez’s introductory health class has featured multiple lectures that taught “sectarian views and personal bias as fact,” which is a direct violation of both federal and state constitutional protections that guarantee the separation of church and state. Across the US, all publicly funded colleges and schools must follow this separation of church and state to ensure a welcoming environment for all students. (more…)
California State University System Receives Stimulus Funds for Fall 2010
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Students attending classes in fall 2010 at one of the 23 California State University campuses will now have more classes available to them than previously expected, thanks to $50.9 million in one-time federal stimulus funds. This massive infusion of cash will definitely help close the budget deficit at each of the CSU campuses, but this will not be enough to close the gap. It will however provide CSU college students with an additional 8,000 courses for fall 2010 across all of the CSU schools. (more…)
California Community Colleges Partner With Kaplan University
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Community colleges in California have had to deal with major budget cuts, which have forced many of the schools to completely cut some classes, or offer them fewer times each year. This has made it extremely difficult for students to get into the classes they need in order to graduate with their associates degree. In order to help more students complete their campus-based associates degree requirements, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office announced this week that they have teamed up with Kaplan University to allow students in California to enroll in single courses online. Summer Session Canceled at City College of San Francisco
Friday, February 5th, 2010Budget cuts across the UC, CSU, and community college systems of California are causing numerous problems for the schools as they struggle to offer enough classes for students to graduate. There have already been a variety of classes being offered less often than expected, and when they are offered they might be full, which forces college students to wait until the next term. This scenario is even worse for students of City College of San Francisco, because the school decided to cancel their very popular summer session. The summer session at City College of San Francisco is typically a great time for students to catch up and take classes they could not attend during the normal school year. (more…)

‘Student Protection Act’ Introduced for CSU and UC School Systems
Monday, February 1st, 2010Last week, California State Senator Jeff Denham, R-Merced, introduced the “Student Protection Act,” at Fresno State University and UC Merced. This act would require schools in the University of California and California State University systems to have a 180-day waiting period between when a tuition or fee increase is approved, and when it goes into effect. It also looks to limit fee increases to no more than 10% per year, which would be a step to help curb the rapid increase which California colleges have experienced lately. (more…)
